ORIGINS

 

KOTO was founded by two Japanese women, Yuki and Ayako.

Born and raised in Kyoto, Japan,
we grew up surrounded by traditional culture
without fully realizing its value.

As we began living and working abroad,
we came to see Japan through new eyes —
and felt a strong desire to share
the beauty of Kyoto and Japanese culture
with people around the world.

From Kyoto and Milan,
KOTO was born from perspectives
only the two of us could bring together.

 

 

WHAT WE CREATE

 

KOTO reimagines traditional Japanese textiles
as accessories for modern life.

Rather than preserving culture as something distant,
we transform it into pieces
that can be worn, touched,
and lived with every day.

 

 

MEANING & CONNECTION

 

Our first creation was a single bracelet
made from kimono fabric.

Featuring three beads,
it symbolizes lasting connections
between the wearer and their loved ones.

Since then,
every KOTO piece is created
with meaning, intention,
and a wish for happiness.
